Validation by spam

February 27, 2012

I’ve blogged before (elsewhere, not here), about validation by spam. You know, those wonderful spam comments you get on your blog, saying your post is the best thing ever, and linking to a porn site (or somesuch) in the associated url.

Sure, I know it’s not real love, but I still enjoyed the (marginal) ego boost.

Well, just lately, even the spam is telling me I suck. See the following:

Hello, you used to write magnificent, but the last few posts have been kinda boring… I miss your tremendous writings. Past few posts are just a little out of track! come on!

I’m pretty sure this is spam (it had all the right features)…. but is it?! Do the last few chapters suck? How do the spam bots know!?

Definitely spam. In fact, I think I saw the exact same message on Erin Morgenstern’s website. I haven’t read the last few chapters, since I just found plotmash, but creation can’t suck. What can suck is spam that destroys the integrity of the place for discussing said creation. Also, “you used to write magnificent?!” Pay no mind to such blatant abuses of English!

Plotmash is a groovy idea, so don’t let the bots (or trolls) get you down!

    • Hi Zamy,

Great to meet you, thanks for your comment! Your kind words are in fact the first non-bot comments on plotmash, so you really have brightened my day :-).
